Egypt – Gilf Kebir - Rock Art Sites in Wadi Wassa
In the southern part of Gilf Kebir rock art sites are very rare, some petroglyphs in Wadi Akhdar and only one cave « Mogharet el Kantara » or Shaw‘s cave, discovered 1935 - with paintings (Giancarlo Negro and Yves Gauthier in Sahara 9 / 1997 page 124 - 133)
During lunch in Wadi Wassa - April 2014 - I noticed two small shelters on the other side of the sandy plain. After a walk in this direction I saw in front of the left one flakes and some tools on the ground and higher up some petroglyphs of giraffes, paintings of two rows of men and something not definable.
From the top of this hill, also covered with flakes and tools, I could see a few km away Wadi Wassa 1, another cave with paintings of humans and sheep, discovered in April 2013
